Rara Woulib: Deblozay

Sat 27 August 8.30pm

Please Note: Procession starts at Inwood Park, Livingston Road Gate, TW3 1XX and ends in Bell Square.

The grand finale for Summer of Culture is Deblozay (“Bedlam” in Haitian Creole) by internationally renowned outdoor performance company, Rara Woulib. Working with community groups, residents and local artists from across the borough, Rara Woulib will create a spectacular, mass participation event in Hounslow town centre to create a night-time trip through the memory of Hounslow and its inhabitants where theatre, image and soundscapes come together in stunning fashion.

The project unearths and celebrates ‘lost memories’ of the location and its communities, drawing in as wide a range of participants and audiences as possible, including those whose voices are rarely heard. This exciting event will explore the nooks and crannies of the area, changing the perceived shape of Hounslow town centre for even those who know it well.

In addition to creating a large-scale spectacular closing event for the festival, the project will support skills development for local artists, new opportunities for community groups and residents.

About the company

Rara Woulib’s creative process began in Marseille in 2011, alternating background work within the troupe (writing, experimentation, scenographic construction, props, costumes) with public confrontation which continues to sculpt its form.

The creative process is never complete. The final form is enriched by each show, by each encounter, and is transformed at each and every stage. Each place they pass through contributes to the next. The beginning and the end: two completely different states of being.

Whilst restrictions have lifted on how we all enjoy public spaces we ask all our visitors to be mindful of others wishing to share the space with them. If you are able please wear a face cover and make space for others around you.
